Meeting Speaker

Laura Rice, S.E., Associate with Degenkolb Engineers

Laura Rice is an Associate working for Degenkolb in Sacramento.  She joined Degenkolb in 2015 after receiving her BS in ARCE from Cal Poly SLO, her MS in SE from the University of California, San Diego and her Professional Engineers License while practicing on the central coast. During her time with Degenkolb, she has worked in both our Oakland and Sacramento offices on a number of Healthcare, Civic, and Forensics projects. Laura brings over 9 years experience in adaptive reuse, seismic evaluation and retrofit design, and non-structural equipment bracing and anchorage.

Degenkolb recently worked to upgrade an existing tilt up concrete panel warehouse in Rocklin to a Mission Critical Datacenter. Seismic strengthening of the building to IO standards required creative solutions, and unforeseen existing conditions resulted in an opportunity to solve unique problems. Speed, accuracy, communication, and flexibility were essential during this project. We will share lessons learned from our initial design to managing an ever changing scope during the CA phase.
